One of the best parts of General Convention is the Exhibit Hall – a county fair type celebration of the good work of the church. Folks are still setting up but here are some great finds.
The good folks at Forward Movement have developed a FREE online curriculum for children, youth, and adults- Living Discipleship. The first year is based on the lives of saints – ancient and recent examples of followers of Jesus. Lesson plans are free – enough for about 26 weeks, sessions around 45 minutes to an hour. Participant workbooks are for purchase if you want them – not required though. However, if your ASA is under 50, Forward Movement will give you 10 free copies. There is also a Spanish version.
This is another interesting new resource from Forward Movement. It is modeled on the table fellowship and conversation of the Alpha program. However with this program, rather than have a talking head on a video “answer” questions about faith, this process seeks to transform the questions. Example -session 8 – Where do we go when we die? leads to exploration of eternal life as the completion of God’s work that has begun in the here and now. (Disclaimer – I led Alpha years ago in a Methodist church. The model really works, but I welcome a different curriculum). 10 sessions. Again, the resource is free. Participant workbooks are optional but available for sale if you want them. Again ten free copies if your ASA is under 50. This is great stuff – check it out.
Impressed also with Living Compass – resources promoting wellness and the spiritual life. The resources can be used flexibly – lots of different options. I’m going to check out this info for parents.
Walking the Mourners Path – a grief ministry I’ve heard of before but want to check out.
These geniuses are selling custom order clergy shirts for women made on site. Cotton knit – very exciting. Lines are already long for these. Check them out at clergyimage.com .
Order of St. Helena is here selling lovely cards. Sister Ann and I were seminary hallmates at Southern Baptist seminary long ago. We’ve both had journeys since then. Always nice to see her. The convent is moving to South Carolina soon.
ALL the seminaries area here. I played Bishop Bingo at the Sewanee booth – Bishop Alexander was the free space in the center. Everyone else on the card had Sewanee connections.
